so young so corrupt concept paper

Rachel ann asis siñel. Abbc. Advanced radio production. January 18,, 2007

OVERVIEW / BACKGROUND INFO

This is a radio docudrama dealing with youth, politics, and corruption. This is a reflection of society. The story is lifted from Young Blood Book 3. Young blood is a section In Philippine Daily Inquirer where people around 28 years of age and below are given a chance to voice their perspective of anything under the sun. (Me too, is writing for this section.). the article is entitled SO YOUNG, SO CORRUPT. The author hides behind the name Zvach. This was published July 3, 2003.

Goin’ back to the story, it will revolve around my main character Alex . He used to be an achiever. He is a his high school’s valedictorian. He used to be an idealistic stude at university of the Philippines. He was young and good but the ever angelic Adonis turned into a beast when he entered the political arena. The responsible and admirable guy was transformed into a corrupt and directionless Alex right after he take post as SK federation President.

He left U. P to concentrate more on his obligations. Actually, the exact words from his article were: the conflict with the mayor was the reason why I have to stop my studies. He was encouraging some of the chairpersons to oust me and elect new president. I had to guard my flanks and I coulnt do so while staying In Manila for most of the weeks.

The politics transformed him. Politics taught him the dirty means of survival. He learned to accept bribes from jueteng just to sustain his vices, his staff, and to finance his projects. (He came from opposition so it was really hard for him to access funds for his projects. That’s politics). Before long, he made peace with the mayor, joined hands with majority party and took part in overpricing of contracts and rigging of biddings.

The youth leader that was supposed to be a role model for the youth had become their number one corrupter.

Then, after years of years of playing his cards well, after the years of feasting at the blood of sin, his term ended. That is the point where he asked : WHAT HAD I DONE TO MY LIFE? He then realized that he’s already 26 yet still an undergraduate. Ten years after magnificent high school graduation and six years of being at the snake pit called politics, he is tryin to heal his stained soul.

His town is encouraging him to run into public office in the upcoming election but at last, he woke up from a nightmare. He thinks the people deserve better.

His ending statements: I HAVE BEEN A POLITICIAN. I HAVE BEEN CORRUPT. AND THAT WILL HAUNT ME FOREVER.

STRATEGY / EXECUTION

This story shall be presented in the form of docudrama. I admit, this approach is rare if not new in radio industry. There will be a main presenter who will introduce the issue. This will be followed by series of voice clips and dramatic reenactments. This is a challenged because making a radio documentary entails creativity. Music and sound effects as bridge and to emphasize mood and setting will also be used.

The strength of this concept is the fact that the story revolves on politics. This is not only entertaining but informative and eye opener as well. This aims to rouse national consciousness and sociopolitical awareness of the Filipinos. Young and old alike, from different levels of society can relate to the story
